Fishing with Steve at Titlow Beach Friday Dec 17th 2010

We hit Titlow Beach again. This time the tide was out so there was an actual beach to fish from. I used my new pole for the first time. I stopped at Cabella's outdoor store (in Olympia) on the way up from Portland and was totally amazed at the huge selection of fishing stuff, and the aquariums and waterfall. Wow. What a great place. Its like a Disneyland for fishermen. The prices seem a bit high though. I really just needed a spool of 10lb line for my new pole and the cheapest they had was $8, so I went to Freddies and got it for $2.79.

This place must have both a Matel ThingMaker and a CreepyCrawler set, and lots of Goo. When I was a kid I wanted to start a business like this with Steve, making fishing lures. I've lost most of these lures by getting snagged, but someday I will catch a fish with one.

This place sells the worms to Fred Meyers, and they do a nice job. They were really big worms, and lasted a long time. The ones I didn't use are in my compost pile, and they might be large enough by now to kill me in my sleep. Really - they were so big they sort of creeped me out, like snakes. They were so big we needed to cut them in half with my pliers (standard equipment in my tackle box) and even cut in half they put up a really good fight. They must have brains at each end.

This place also has great worms. Try them fried with garlic, and a nice red wine. Or use them to catch fish. I think a few got loose in the back seat of my car. Thanks Steve.

Fishing with Steve in the Puaylup River, Surprise Lake, Five Mile Lake, and the Green River, Dec 2nd and 3rd 2010

Steve and I hit the Puaylup River on Thursday south of Milton, north of Puaylup. The current was fast. We tried worms and spinners, but no bites.

After a few hours we switched to Surprise Lake in Milton and tried worms, salmon eggs and cheese marshmallows, but no bites.

And then we tried Five Mile Lake and no bites there either.

The next day (Friday) we tried the Green River south of Southcenter. No bites.

And then we tried the Green River in Kent fishing from the pedestrian bridge near the golf course, and still no bites.

Fishing with H in the Tualatin River, Saturday Nov 27, 2010

H and I spent a few house fishing under the hwy 219 bridge over the Tualatin. We were using worms mostly. The current was strong and would constantly send the bobbers towards the south shore. We had no nibbles, no strikes, no fish.

To fill in more of the details:
We parked the car (my 1999 VW Jetta, 254K miles) next to the bridge and climbed down the bank. We were under the bridge (no dead bodies, yea) and found a great place except it was rather steep. H was in front and slipped. I'm amazed his ass was not totally covered in mud, but somehow he was mostly unscathed. This was not a big deal, but he wanted to make sure I described it in more detail. So there you go.

Central Oregon Camping Trip - July 20-24, 2010

Fished in Lake Billy Chinook with Bonnie.
She sat in the shade reading while I fished. It seemed perfect.
Wednesday July 21st.
Caught 4 Bass using worms, kept 2 and had them for dinner. Small but tasty.

Bass- They were quite small.

 I also fished in Lava Lake southwest of Bend with Bonnie in a rented canoe. It was an extremely nice day but the fish were not biting. The water is super clear. Central Oregon is paradise. I was really happy.

Fishing with Steve at Chamber's Creek Saturday September 11, 2010

Once again Steve and I go to Chamber's Creek. We had a few nibbles and one strike, but no fish were caught.

 Lots of trees overhead make casting a bit tricky.

We did about about 8 clamming trips this year.

The limit is 15, we usually get about a dozen per person

Yes I know clamming is not fishing, but it's my blog and I'll do whatever I want.

Here is one nice bucket of fresh Pacific Razor Clams. Plump and Juicy. Over the course of the summer Ellen, Patty and I got over 160 clams. We also went clamming with H and his step-dad Ron.

Fishing with Steve in Scappoose

Fishing in Scappoose under the tree house, at the confluence of Lizzy creek and the North fork of Scappoose Creek (which happens to occur just past the bridge, near the base of the tree house).

 The first catch was a crawdad, which makes excellent bait.

 Steve caught a perfect trout under the overhanging bush, at the base of the tree house

 And then he caught another one.

It was a very good day.
